Wht to do about property taxes that are past due on the home of a decesed homeowner?

When my mother passed away the state was considering filing a claim against the home for my mother’s medical bills. After a little over 2 years they sent me a letter saying the case was closed. In that time that I was waiting to find out what was going to happen the property taxes fell behind. I have been paying them on time since I got the letter that the case was closed but I don’t know if theres a way to get help with the taxes since I am in the process of probate and my name is not on my mother’s property or estate. What can I do to save the home? The tax collector doesn’t want to work with me.

Pay them up to avoid a lien and a foreclosure. I don't know why the tax collector does not want to work with you. Does he or she want the property tax to be paid up?
