What to do if my former landlord is charging me for cleaning and damage fees when the place was clean?
Landlord is charging me $800 in cleaning and carpet fees, when apartment was spotless and carpet had light damage. However, they say 85% damage, when I believe is was less than 10%. The entire time we lived there we didn’t have hot wate which is unsuitable living conitions.

Given from what you have written as to charges by your former landlord as to you of $800.00 or so that you do not believe you owe, I would write the former landlord a letter asking for copies of all documents showing the claimed damages against you.
Unless your lease required you to leave the unit in spotless shape, you were under no obligation to leave the unit ship shape. Based upon the documents provided you, you will then be in a position to make an informed decision as to how to deal with the claimed $800.00 in damages against you.
