What to do if my mom died but had previously told my brother and I about money she had for us when she passed but my stepdad hasn’t mentioned it?

I’m 17 and now living with my real dad and do not have contact with my stepfather. Would the state contact me about a Will? She died 5 months ago.

I suggest that you consult with your father about any Will or trust that your deceased mother may have had where you were named as a beneficiary and to get a copy of it. Perhaps since you are a minor your father may need to retain a Wills and trust attorney to probate or administer your mother's estate for you.
