Can I be arrested for an accident that took place on private property?

I was in a parking lot and while pulling my big rig out of the spot, I hit the front end of the car next to me. At the time I did not know that I hit it as I was loaded and didn’t feel anything. I was contacted by a local police officer stating that he wants to arrest me for leaving. I am traveling back to meet with him.

Private property or public property, it does matter if you violated the law. After all (to use an extreme example), a murder committed on a private property (or an assault, or theft, etc.) is just as much a crime as murder, etc. committed in the public space.
