A lane violation is usually when a car is not traveling in the correct lane of traffic.  Perhaps they were turning out of the wrong lane, crossing another lane illegally or cutting off another driver.  The police officer should have explained to you what the ticket was for when he gave it to you.  Were you in an accident or did he pull you over?
