Can I probate a Will myself?

I am the executor of my mom’s estate. I have one brother; my father is already passed as well. There is nothing of value in the estate, except some stock. The value is very small, only $3,000. I have already spoken with a Medallion officer about this. They said I had to have my mom’s Will probated. My father’s Will was probated after he passed and it costed us around $1,800.

I am so sorry for your loss.  There is no requirement that you use an attorney to probate a Will.  In fact, it sounds as if you have what would qualify as a small estate for probate and that you could easily do yourself.  You sounds as if you have already made a plan with regard to the stocks and you could probably use a transfer agent at very little cost.  Good luck.
