Can we sell?

My husband and I purchased a house 3 months ago, and opportunities arose for us to move for jobs. Can we sell the house ourselves without a realtor? We just would need to break even on the house. We wouldn’t look to make any money, but we also can not afford to lose a lot of money in the process. What are our options?

Legally, you can do a "for sale by owner" (often abbreviated FSBO): there is no legal obligation to have a realtor. That said, it's often worth it to have a realtor: 1) even though you'll pay the realtor 5-6%, if they get you 5-6% more money, that washes out--and they may well get you yet more; 2) they could, through their network and marketing resources, get you the sale faster, so you carry or hold onto this house for less time; 3) they will save you time which you can spend on finding a new house in your new location, packing, moving, etc.
But if you want to sell it yourself, you may. You can find and download contracts from the internet.
