Whether you will receive alimony is based on a case-by-case basis as agreed by the parties or at the court's discretion.

Many factors are considered in determining if alimony is necessary, including the following:

  • earning capacity of the parties;
  • sources of income of both parties;
  • length of the marriage;
  • assets and liabilities of the parties;
  • needs of the parties.

So you may or may not lose alimony just because you have a housemate to help with your living expenses. The court will consider the above and other factors when making that determination.
