Can a landlord raise rent twice in a one year span?

Rent raised in Nov. 2015 and again in May 2016. Is this legal?

If you have a written lease that does not provide for these rental increases, then they are not legal. In fact, such increases would be a breach of contract and you would have a legal claim against your landlord. However, if you don't have a written rental agreement, then you have a month-to-month lease. This means that upon 30 days notice (in most states), you can be given an increase in rent.
