Can a 17 year old be arrested and asked questions without being Mirandized and without waiving their rights?
The girl was caught shoplifting less than $15. The police asked her questions, parents weren’t present at the time of, and she was given a citation/arrest for juvenile court appearance bond for a week after. She’s thinking of pleading guilty because they have her on camera; but she never made it out of the store with the merchandise. She has good grades and is active in her high school.

Miranda warnings must only be read if there will be a custodial interrogation. That is true regardless of the age of the person involved. permission is not required of the parents before an introogation occurs.
You should retain legal counsel.
