What is an employee’s right not to be schedued for work?

As an employee I asked to not be scheduled and was pushed to give a reason why. My boss looked at me after I explained why and was told yeah I don’t really care about your situation and that isn’t a good reason. They are willing to work with people with kids, other jobs and school but not with me. I am a single woman who needs a small schedule change since I have a new puppy. Can they really just decide who they think has valid reasons and who doesn’t?

Under the laws of all states in this country most employees are terminable at the will of the employer if the employer does not believe the employee is doing a good job at work or being a team player. There are certain reasons where an employee cannot be terminated based upon discriminatory grounds such as gender, sexual orientation or retaliatory grounds such as being a "whistle blower" concerning illegal conduct of the employer.

In your matter, you have the right to not want to take a particular schedule assigned to you for work by your employer. Likewise, your employer has the right to deem such refusal as conduct by you warranting a short term career where you are presently employed.
