Good question. If the bankruptcy filing happens before you marry this person, you will not be involved in the proceeding. However, if you marry this person before the filing, you will at the very least be indirectly involved in the bankruptcy filing and proceeding. Depending upon what type of bankruptcy filing there is after the marriage, you might be directly involved in the proceedings.

A word to the wise. If the person you are marrying has financial issues, I suggest that before you actually marry him or her that you consult with a family law attorney to protect your financial interests.
