I currently freelance for multiple US companies. Legally can I work remote and rent an apartment in the US for 3 months for tourism purposes?

You are not p ermitted to work in the US unless you have valid employment authorization. you can stay in the US for up to 6 months at a time for tourism purposes and you can rent an apartment but you are not allowed to work. Doing so, regardless whether it is remote or on site is a violation of your your tourist status while in the US.
