This is very likely illegal sex-based discrimination, since based on the timing, it would be very difficult for the boss to prove that this was not in fact a termination due to your pregnancy or leave; and since only women get pregnant, the law treats negative employment actions taken due to pregnancy as illegal anti-woman discrimination.
