Under the laws of all states in this county, most employees are terminable at the will of the employee. Meaning, an employee can be fired by his or her employer for any justifiable reason so long as there is no discriminatory purpose based upon race, gender, ethnicity or sexuual orientation as examples. Another prohibited basis for termination is retalitation based upon "whistleblowing" (reporting an employer of illegal operations).
In your matter, if you were terminated for leaving right after your shift instead of staying to help due to a rush of business, your employer may be justified particularly if there were prior issues with you not wanting to be a "team player" at work.
