Would work policies stand after working hours?

An employee sent a private email to their work supervisor after hours; it was a private email address and a personal computer was used. The email was a little too strongly stated to the supervisor. Would employer policies and procedures apply after hours?

While some employment policies, like a dress code, would generally not apply when not at work, policies about how to communicate with supervisors, showing respect, not being insubordinate, etc. would apy after work. An employee could be disciplined, potentially even terminated, for this.
