Why was a state tax lien filed against me as secretary of a company that I have no financial interest in?

A tax lien for $25K was filed against me today. The owner of the company, a family member, failed to pay taxes. Why was it filed against me? Should he fail to pay, will I lose my property? This will obviously affect my credit score. Do I have any recourse against him?

I have no idea why you may have been personally named with resoect to a state tax lien with respect to a company where you are its secretary based upon the question you have written. I suggest that you have a meeting with the owners of the company that you work for to see what can be done to resolve this tax lien that you have written about. Consulting with a business attorney is also suggested as well.
