How do you determine who was responsible for an accident?
I was in a left hand turning lane pulling up to a red light when a driver pulled out of a parking lot and slammed into my front passenger door. We both went around the corner to a different plaza to exchange information. No police report was filed. I’m not interested in making a claim as it would be cheaper for me to fix the damage myself. I am 24 years old and only have a permit. The car and insurance Is under my boyfriend’s name. Who is at fault and will I be responsible for his damages? I only saw paint transfer and his license plate fell off, which he went back and found.

It appears that the other driver was at fault because he pulled out of a parking lot and hit your front passenger door.
Since it appears the other driver was at fault, your boyfriend (the registered owner of the vehicle you were driving) is not liable for the damage to the other vehicle, and neither are you.
