When submitting medical bills to my auto insurance company, do I submit the actual amount of the medical bills or the amount paid by my medical insurance company?

Current medical bills (before medical insurance discounts applied) exceed $100K and necessitate request for my auto insurance company to tender the $50K of underinsured available for upcoming surgery, rehab costs, and lost wages. After medical insurance negotiated discounts, the amount does not exceed 100K. Is it customary to submit the actual medical bill amount or discounted amount?

You should submit the total medical bill without any medical insurance discounts.  In addition to the medical bills, your personal injury claim should include the medical reports and documentation of wage loss.  Compensation for the medical bills is straight reimbursement.  Compensation for wage loss is straight reimbursement.  The medical reports will document the nature and extent of your injuries and will be used to determine compensation for pain and suffering.  It would be premature to settle the case until you either complete your medical treatment and are released by the doctor or are declared by the doctor to be permenant and stationary which means having reached a point in your treatment where no further improvement is anticipated.  If the case is not settled with the insurance company and the statute of limitations is approaching, file your lawsuit for negligence against the at-fault party or you will lose your rights forever in the matter if the statute of limitations expires.  If the case is settled with the insurance company, NO lawsuit is filed.  If you are dissatisfied with settlement offers from the insurance company, reject the settlement offers and file your lawsuit for negligence against the at-fault party.
