What typically happens in a copyright/trademark infringement case?

I sold around 50 T shirts with what turned out to be copyrighted artwork on them. I didn’t know that the art was copyrighted. A law firm has contacted me and ordered me to stop (which I have, and won’t re-start). They say they can seek legal fees and treble damages on the matter and want me to submit everything I have regarding sales and inventory. I have everything ready to turn in to them. My fear is not knowing how much money they can take from me. I only earned a little over $200 US on the shirts.

That answer is too vague.  What they will likely want to do is settle with you.  They know that lawsuits are expensive and is the last resort.  They want to see the sales you've made in order to determine a settlement amount.  If they do intend to sue you, and you are found guilty of copyright infringement, they can receive a judgement of $750- $30,000 in statutory damages.
