Whether or not there is a written lease in effect, certain legal procedures must be followed in order to lawfully evict a tenant. AL requires that in the case of unpaid rent, a lanlord must give a 7-day notice . If your tenant fails to vacate the premises, then you will have to file an "unlawful detainer action" (i.e. eviction preceeding). For more information, here is a link that will explain further:
