What to do if I was an accident but neither me or the at fault driver had insurance?

I was an a accident and I thought I was covered but didn’t know my insurance had lapsed I was not at fault. I found out that the girl at fault was not covered either but my children and I have injuries.

Typically, the at fault driver's insurance company would cover your damages. However, since they are uninsured, then you can check with your insurer to see if you have uninsured motorist coverage. If you don't have this coverage, then you can sue the other driver for your damages, however they may not have much in the way of assets since they couldn't afford car insurance.
