What state should my lawyer live in – the state I live in or the state my trust fund is in?

My dad created a Trust fund for me in MI. I live in FL. It’s time for me to receive the Trust but I’m not sure who to contact.

If the trust was created in MI under MI law, you probably want to retain a MI trusts and estates attorney. Not only will he or she be more familiar with the law governing trusts in that state, but since if a court needs to get involved, it will most likely be a MI court, a local MI attorney will also be more familiar with the procedural and court rules, and may even know (or at least know) the judge.
