What should Ido if a company does not pay me?

Got hired for a roofing job. The foreman on the job never put in my time. The company told me I would have my money by today for work done 2 weeks ago. Not paid.

If you were an employee, not an independent contractor, you could try filing a complaint with your state's Department of Labor.

If that does  not work (e.g. they choose to not pursue), or if you prefer, or as an independent contractor, you may sue the employer for the money owed you. You would need to provide testimony and/or proof of the terms of employment (e.g. your hourly rate) and the hours you worked. For smaller amounts, you could sue in small claims court and represent yourself (i.e. not hire an attorney, to save on legal costs). For larger amounts, you should hire a lawyer.
