What’s the best way to go about obtaining custody of a dog?

My ex-fiance and I were together for 5 years and in that time we got a dog together. When we broke up he came to my house and stole her from me. Most of her vet appointments are in my name and she is registered in the city of Kalamazoo, MI in my name. How can I get her back or set up shared custody?

The best way to resolve the custodial issues over your shared pet with your former fiance is to enter into a written agreement setting forth custody and visitation rights of each of you for the animal signed and dated by each of you. This would be the most economical way to resolve this issue as to time and expenses.

If you cannot resolve this issue concerning custody issues over your shared pet by voluntary agreement, the only other way to resolve matters is through the filing of a legal action where the court ultimately will make the decision.

A legal action will be time consuming and costly if an attorney is retained to try get the desired custody of the dog.

Good luck.
