What is the law about marrying your legal but adoptedfamily?
My father adopted my “brother” when he was 19. We never lived together as siblings. I was 21. We have been in a relationship for years and want to get married. What has to be done? Does he need to be adopted by someone else? We are both in our 40’s now.

Legally he is your brother and I am pretty sure that state of Michigan has a law that prohibits the marriage because of the relationship status. I think that you need to seek help from an attorney in your area as to what you may need to do here. Maybe have the adoption voided? That has a whole other host of consequences associated with it like inheritance rights, etc. so I would be careful here. Maybe seek permission by asking the court to note that there is no blood relationship between you? I doubt that that would fly unless a legal decision was rendered about your sibling status (again voiding the status). Good luck to you.
