If you're income eligible a public defender will be appointed for you by the court. If you do not qualify for one, you can try legal aid, although they too have certain income requitements. Additionally, you can also contact the county/city bar association of the locale in which you were arrested; it may have a list of "pro bono" attorneys (i.e, attorneys who will take your case for little to no cost). You can also see if there is a law school in the area; they typically have legal clinics that handle certain criminal cases.
