What are the consequences of breaking contract?

I am a physician on J1 visa. I signed a 3 years contract with a hospital. Later I was discouraged by other employees not to start as the program is extremely poorly managed and everyone else is leaving. My medical licensee paper work and J 1 paperwork is still pending. Could you please advise what should I do? And what are the consequences of breaking contract?

If you break your contract with respect to the hospital that you are to work for and your J1 visa is pending with respect to it but not approved, then you stand a fair chance that your visa will not be approved and you will not be able to be in this country on such type of a visa.

If you want to work in this country, I suggest you begin looking for other hospital positions and try to get an offer there and if so, supplement your visa application with the name of the other potential employer.
