If we have found a house on our own without the real estate agent, do we still owe the agent commission if she did not find us the home?

Possibly. Possibly not. In the state of North Dakota the contract - as really any where - will govern what your rights and obligations are in a real estate agreement. But fuirst of all it is generally the seller that pays the broker's fee and not the buyer, unless you are a renter.  If you are a renter then the broker had to have been the one to find a renter that is "ready, willing and able" or tbe what is called the "procuring cause" in the transaction.  I would speak with ana ttorney in your area.  Good luck.
