TX Couple Awarded $51M In Home Construction Defect Lawsuit After Fighting Dirty Politics

A Texas couple finally won a 14-year legal battle with their home builder over construction defects the company failed to correct. The homeowners allegedly fought dirty politics along the way, and refused to give up. Their patience and resilliance finally paid off. They were awarded $51 million, $40 million of which constituted punitive damages.

Texas Construction Defect Lawsuit

According to news reports, Bob and Jane Cull hired Houston Texas home builder and billionaire, Bob Perry of Perry Homes, to build them a house in the mid 1990’s. He built the house and charged them $240,000. However, when the Culls took possession, they discovered that the house had multiple construction defects. They asked Perry to fix these problems, but he refused. They hired a Texas construction defect attorney who filed a lawsuit against him, and an arbitrator awarded the Culls $800,000.

Fighting Dirty Politics

Perry refused to pay the arbitration award and took the lawsuit all the way to the Texas Supreme Court, which ruled in Perry’s favor. The Culls soon found out why the Court ruled as it did. Perry, a Texas billionaire, had contributed money to every member of the Court and to Texas Governor, Rick Perry (no relation). However, the Culls persevered and were recently awarded $51 million in damages.
