Unfortunately, unless this is mandated to be given by the terms of company policy, a union agreement or company policy, there is no legal requirement to give an anemployee off to attend their child's graduation. Unfortunate but it's the law. Also, your being denied such time must not have constitued some form of legally actionable discrimination. Otherwise, an employer is free to set the rules/regulations of the workplace much as it sees fit.
