Should I sign a divorce letter of summons and complaint before hiring an attorney or is this just a formality?

Wife says signing will not bind me to anything. I have reservations; in the complaint for divorce I do not agree with some stipulations. Does signing the summons and complaint hold me to the complaint for divorce also? Should I sign or get an attorney first?

If you have doubts, always talk to an attorney. They are here to help and to protect your interest.
