What is a child’s reponsibility/liability for a parent that suffers from Alzheimers?

My aging parents are living with me right now. One of them has Alzheimer and sometimes wanders on the street. Will the law come after me if something happens to him? I am trying to help my parents but I also have a family to take care of and I have to leave them at home alone few hours a day. I tried not to put them in nursing home but if the law holds me accountable, I will have to.

If your parents are literally living in your home and one or both of them have issues needing constant care and you are aware of such, you morally have an obligation to do your best to care for them but legally you have no duty to care for them unless you are designated as their attorney in fact under a power of attorney or are designated as their conservator under a court order.
