Payday date change.

In California can my employer change my payday?
So normally my paydays fall on the 5th and
20th. But last week they told us our payday
changed to the 6th due to the 4th of July
hoilday. Even thought our day is the 5th and
it’s not a holiday. What bothers me the most is
most renters give a late fee if you pay rent
after the 6th. Had they told us the payday
ahead …I could have made arrangements.

In CA, most employers must pay employees their regular wages, with some exceptions, at least twice during each calendar month on the days designated in advance as regular paydays. The employer must establish a regular payday and is required to post a notice that shows the day, time and location of payment. Therefore, a pay day can be changed so long as payment is made 2 times a month. However, notice must be given in advance; how much notice is not clear. You can contact the Department of Industrial relations; they can best advise further.

Yes, it is perfectly legal. Your employer has discretion to set the exact date for pay and can make minor changes like this at will. It's also a reasonable change: even if the 5th is not a holiday, the 4th is, and a holiday day like that can easily delay processing by a day.
