Unless your wife had PTO/vacation time or applied for FMLA to cover her absence, then her employer was within its rights to terminate her. The fact is that absent some form of legally actionable discrimination, a company can set the conditions of employment much as it sees fit. This includes firing a worker for any reason or no reason at all, with or without notice. Accordingly, unless she had protection under the terms of a union agreement or employment contract, she has no claim.
