How would someone go about getting in front of the parole board or applying for a split sentence?

My son is serving a 5 to 10 year prison sentence for aggravated assault. He almost has 2 years in and has been a model inmate. He is also doing some electrical work and has completed his classes required, plus some others. Would he be eligible for a split sentence or reduced sentence? How would he go about getting in front of the parole board or applying for a split sentence?

These sentences are usually statutory and there is little than can be done for him to get a lighter sentence. He may need to wait quite a bit longer. You can always have his counsel attempt to file a motion or appeal to the parole board but it may be too early to do so.
