If you are unwilling or unable to pay what the customer thinks is fair, you can't stop her from suing you. In the lawsuit, assuming that she can prove that you were negligent, or careless, in the dry cleaning either in how it was done, or in dry cleaning this suit--e.g. perhaps it should have pulled aside and the customer told it could be dry cleaned, she can recover the value of the suit--but no more than that. When property is damaged by another, only the foreseeable losses caused by the careless or otherwise wrongful act may be recovered barring very unusual  circumstances, for a suit, that would be the value of the suit.
