No, it's not legal--not that the employer can't make you deposit money in the bank they can, but that doing so is work and so, as work, you need to be paid for the time you spend doing this e.g. be "on the clock", if you are an hourly employee. If you are paid on an hourly basis and are not paid for your time doing this, you could either contact the state or federal department of labor to file a wage and hour complaint i.e. for violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act or contact an attorney to bring a lawsuit for the money you are owed.
