What happens to land that my late husband inherited from his father?

My husband recently passed away; he was the oldest of 2 siblings. His dad passed away many years ago. My husband took the deed and abstract home from the funeral. Nothing was changed. I need to know the legal succession on this property. His brother lives on it as we lived in another county .

You need to check with a real estate lawyer immediately, since it's very likely that your husband did NOT inherit the land: merely taking the deed and abstract does not equal inheritance, and if there was no will (and no survining spouse--i.e. mother), then upon your husband's father's passing, he and his brother would have both inherited the property (they both have an interest in hit). Do not assume your husband inherited under the circumstances you describe.
