What to do if my ex-husband called and made a death threat to me so my employer has asked me not to com into work?

I have a restraining order but he was released from custody. Then 2 months ago he slit his own throat, so he is very capable of hurting me. I informed my employer incase he showed up while I was working. I am now being asked to not come into work and face possible termination. Can they fire me for something that was out of my control?

Yes, if you do not have an employment contract, you are an employee at will; an employee at will may be fired due to factors beyond her control or for which she bears no blame. And specifically, the law does not require an employer to take a risk of a violent attack occuring at its place of business.
