If my car got keyed in the HOA garage, can I ask them to pay for the damages?

The damages to my car are estimated at $1-2K. There has been other incidents (e.g. theft) in the garage recently and our HOA refuses to put up security cameras. I pay $600 per month in HOA fees and I’m not even sure what I’m paying for if they cannot keep the premises safe.

Based upon what you have written about you can ask your HOA to pay you for the costs of repairing your keyed car. Most likely your demand will be denied. The problem that you have is that based upon what you have written about your HOA is not responsible for paying you damages for the keyed car. The person who keyed the car is responsible for your damages.
