If my brother was charged with misdemeanor assaultbut we don’t have money for a lawyer, what should we do?

He also just recently got off of probation for disorderly conduct.

If your brother has been charged with a criminal offense and he cannot afford an attorney, I recommend that he go down to the county public defender's office to see if he qualifies for court appointed counsel for the upcoming hearing (arraignment).

He will be requested to fill out an income questionaire and provide it to the public defender's office. Once completed the court clerk will advise him if he qualifies for court appointed legal representation.
