What to do if my boyfriend received a phone call by the city police yesterday asking him to go to the station to talk to them?

He was very worried because he had no idea what it was about. I told him that if it makes him feel better I can stay on the phone with him. While I was still connected, he placed his phone at his front pocket and I heard everything. The detective was accusing him of stealing a flat screen tv and another electronic advice. She even accused me of stealing them which i didn’t appreciate. They claim to have fingerprints and should have results Monday. My boyfriend is actually anxious for Monday to come so he could prove them wrong and apologize for yelling at him and calling him a liar. Can he sue the city police for such accusation?

The police are about to arrest your boyfriend.  It is clear that the police already suspect he is guilty and are hoping to gather further evidence to prove this by questioning him. Police could take out a warrant for him at any time so it is essential that you consult with a lawyer very soon.  An expert criminal defense lawyer like those with my firm could advise you and your boyfriend and what you should do and might even be able to delay or prevent his arrest.  As for suing the city, that is very unlikely unless he actually gets charged with this crime and then later proves his innocence.  If that happens then he may have an action for wrongful imprisonment or other claims which can be discussed at the conclusion of the case.  Again, a good criminal lawyer is the most important thing you need right now - preferably one like us who offers free consultations.
