The definition of a mechanic's lien is that it is a security interest in the title to property for the benefit of those who have supplied labor or materials that improve the property. The property can be real property or personal property. So the answer to your question is yes, a mechanics lien can be placed on the home for services rendered to the previous owner. What you may need to do is to sue the previous owner personally in order to get them to pay the party that placed the lien on the property to obtain a satisfaction of the lien for the property. Otherwise, it will remain there until you sell it. Good luck.
