What can I do regarding a broken contract?

I am a postdoctoral research fellow a university. I recently hired a career coach in the area through LinkedIn and paid him $1900 fees by check at the first meeting. However, he broke his promise several times on the services and actually did nothing since then. I feel it is commercial fraud and want to terminate the coaching section and get a refund. How could I proceed?

You can sue the career coach for breach of contract. Your damages (monetary compensation you are seeking in your lawsuit) would be the $1900 you paid. You can file your lawsuit in small claims court. Upon prevailing in the case, you can also recover court costs which include the court filing fee and process server fee.
