Is there anything I can do about a hospital bill that never went through my insurance?

I was billed for an ambulance 2 years ago, and as soon as I recieved my bill I gave them my insurance information. I didn’t hear anything back until recently. They never billed my insurance even though they had my information, and now they tell me it’s too late. They expect me to pay the full amount…Is there not anything I can do?

If you submitted an ambulance bill to your medical insurance carrier several years ago for payment and your carrier did not pay it in full, in part, or ever denied the tender for payment, you need to re-tender the invoice to the carrier for payment advising the ambulance company of the situation.

If you did not submit the bill to your insurance carrier, you may have a problem in that it is your obligation to submit such invoices for payment in addition to the ambulance company promptly.

You need to contact your insurance provider about the ambulance bill and provide a copy of it. Whether it agrees to pay for it remains to be seen after this length of time if it had never been submitted previously.

In the interim, you need to contact the ambulance company's accounts receivables person and inquire why the ambulance company did not follow through with the insurance information for payment and why it delayed so long in contacting you for payment. Part of the probem lies with the ambulance company's delay in notifying you that the bill had not been paid.
