Is it legal for my boss to tell me upon hiring me that I am not allowed to take deliveries past dark but and now require me to?

When I first got my job, my boss told me that I would never go on deliveries after dark because I am a girl; he told me it was too risky to send me out past dark. He told me the guys will take all deliveries after dark. The first few months, I didn’t take any deliveries. Then I started getting trained to do deliveries. Now, I am the main delivery girl but for no extra pay. He compensates me $1 per delivery. I also take all deliveries whether its dark or not. Last night I was out until 10 pm doing deliveries. This happens almost every night.

Yes, your boss can do this, unless you had an actual employment contract which specified your delivery-related duties. Employers set the duties and job responsibilities of their staff; they can change those duties at will, as long as there is no contract to the contrary. They also do not need to pay employees extra for doing more work; the only obligations regard pay are 1) always pay at least minimum wage; 2) pay hourly staff for all hours worked; 3) pay overtime when nonexempt staff (which includes all hourly staff) work more than 40 hours in a week.
