Is it legal for an apartment company to force me to pay pet rent?

I signed an application stating all of the fees the apartment would cost, it also said failure to sign a lease upon approval would be a $200 fine. This application didn’t state pet rent on it and I had no knowledge of there being pet rent until I came into sign the lease. I was going to be homeless if I didn’t sign the lease, I was forced into signing something I didn’t agree to.

You were not forced to sign the lease that you did. Even though the application for the lease did not have a pet rent provision, the lease provision that was given to you had the pet rent provision within it.

You were not required to sign it. You signed it and are bound by the provisions concerning the pet pay. You simply could have walked away and not signed it.
