Is it legal for a company to ask for a drivers license number

A company requires truck drivers to
check in by letting guards write down
their drivers license number and name.

Yes, this absolutely legal unless it constitutes some form of legally actionable discrimination(which it does not appear to). Also, this reuirement must not be prohibited under the terms of any existing employment contract or union agreement that may be in effect. The fact is that most companies can set the conditions of the workplace much as it sees fit. If an employee is in disagreemnt with company policy, they can either complain but risk termination, or quit.
