Is it legal for an employer to give out your private information to a non-employee of the company?

If the employer disclosed your home address pursuant to court order or legal authority, law enforcement, etc., there is no liability on the part of the employer.  The issue here is to whom was the information given and why? 

One aspect of invasion of privacy is the public disclosure of private facts.  The problem here is that your home address is not a private fact such as confidential medical records or other personal information because your home address could be obtained from other sources that are a matter of public record.  The public record of your address is obtained by senders of junk mail without you having given the sender your address. Therefore, you would not prevail in a lawsuit for invasion of privacy against your employer for the disclosure of your home address.   If confidential medical records had been disclosed, that would be an example of public disclosure of private facts in which a lawsuit for invasion of privacy would be appropriate against the employer.
